Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat is a unique programme that aims to promote mutual understanding between different states and union territories through the concept of a special pairing between the two.

The idea of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat was mooted by Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, during the Rashtriya Ekta Divas held on 31st October 2015 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The Hon'ble Prime Minister explained that cultural diversity, which is so unique to our culture, needs to be celebrated through mutual interaction between the people of different States and UTs. To implement this idea, it was proposed that every State and UT in the country would be paired with another State/UT for a certain period, during which they would carry out a structured engagement with one another in the spheres of language, literature, cuisine, festivals, cultural events, and tourism. For the first phase of this exhibition, the states of Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya have been selected as focus areas. All three regions are rich with a wealth of crafts and textiles, of which a large number are GI certified.
